Standard of Excellence in Reading

Dodge City Middle School was recently recognized by the Kansas State Department of Education and the USD 443 Board of Education for Standard of Excellence in reading. The reading awards received were in grades seven and eight. DCMS also received the reading building award. The state assessments are given to students every year in Grades 3-8 and just one time in high school.  To earn the Kansas Standard of Excellence in Grades 7-8, at least 20% must be Exemplary with not more than 10% in Academic Warning.  Pictured recieving the award are Ms. Stanley, Mrs. Young, Mrs. Louquet, Ms. Small, Mrs. Black, and Mrs. Duree.

DCMS was also given a Challenge Award certificate of recognition in reading. The Challenge Awards are designed to recognize Kansas schools that are making a notable difference in student achievement despite facing significant challenges in their school population.

EIGHTH GRADE EXPLORE (Saturday, December 17, 2011)

We are offering 8th grade students the opportunity to take the EXPLORE exam. More than ever before, it is important that all students have the skills needed to be successful in college and the workplace. Becoming college-ready does not happen overnight; students develop these skills by taking rigorous courses in high school.
EXPLORE helps 8th and 9th graders build high school course plans that will prepare them for college and work and introduces them to career options that are relevant to them.

EXPLORE scores provide early indicators of whether students are on track for college. With plenty of time before students graduate, teachers can use this information to focus on areas of need. Students who take EXPLORE are more likely to be ready for college. Learn more about EXPLORE resources for students at www.actstudent.org.

Mrs. Dick is our school’s 7th grade counselor and Ms. Woods is the counselor for the 8th grade. Both are available at any time. Call (620) 227-1610 and ask for specific counselor.
